South Padre Island is filled with activities. We recommend you make room in your vacation for some of these good times:

1. A visit to Sea Turtles, Inc. This rescue organization does a great job of preserving a local endangered species and gives a wonderful tour.

2. Climb the Port Isabel Lighthouse. The view of South Padre and the bay from the top of this historic light house is stunning!

3. Drive the north beach. You can drive on the beach on South Padre Island. Just go north of town and pay to enter the county park. Be cautious! The tides and sand conditions may make a 4 wheel drive nessary.

4. Build a sandcastle. Padre's sand is known as an excellent building material. You can get creative or take a lesson from an expert that the whole family will enjoy.

5. See a sunset (or two). The sunsets over Laguna Madre bay are stunning. If you arent staying on the bayside there are plenty of bars and restaurants that will offer you refreshments while you enjoy the view.

6. Eat fried shrimp. Most area restaurants will be happy to serve you this local favorite. Best enjoyed with an ice cold beer or margarita.

7. Bike the island. Bicycles, skateboards, roller skates and scooters are totally welcome on South Padre. Many of which are available for rent. The island is best explored by bicycle. You can even rent a 2 or 4 person version for the whole gang.

8. Give yourself a break. The island is known for its laid-back attitude. Catch yourself a nap, enjoy a walk, sit and watch the waves roll in. Its what we do here.
