There is something contagious about happy summer tourists on South Padre Island. Even if you live here, you can't help but be influenced by their enthusiasm for your home town. Everytime I answer the question "What's a good place to eat?" I remember how many really good restaurants we have. Everytime I direct someone to our places of interest, I remember that I havent been to see them for a while and should go. Everytime I send someone shopping at my favorite store, I wonder what new stuff they might have gotten in since I last visited. It's a delight to introduce visitors to a place I enjoy because I recall just why I enjoy it.
Sure this summer has seen its share of crying, tired children, a few holiday traffic snarls and lines at the grocery store. That happens. But, soon it will be Labor Day. After the last fireworks have been set off and the last summer fried shrimp special served, it will still be a fabulous place to call home.
Perhaps, I will have to do a little touristing myself. Just because I remembered how fabulous my beach life really is.
