It is fall again on South Padre Island. I have to say that the months of October and November are my favorites on the island. First, the summer heat is past and the days are mild and sunny. Second, the vast majority of the tourists have gone home and I have the beach almost to myself. This means there is plenty of parking, no wait at the best restaurants and a clean pristine beach just waiting for my dog and I to enjoy a good walk.
I have always wondered why more guests arent here in the fall. There are some of the best bargains on weekend retreats and island getaways. Rental prices are at their lowest and the weather generally great for beach walks and fishing.
Before I lived here we always made a point of taking a nice long weekend trip to South Padre. It was the perfect break from our real lives and so relaxing. We also started spending our holidays on Padre. The new family tradition of Christmas at the beach was such a winner that we eventually made it an annual event. Everyone had plenty to do and so much to do together. It sure beat spending a white Christmas up north with nothing to do but eat!
Yes, fall is a lovely time to enjoy South Padre. Until everyone else figures this out, I'll just enjoy a nice quiet time on a long sandy beach.
