Wintertime has come to South Padre Island. Or at least that is what they tell us. Having been raised in a much colder climate I still have to stifle a giggle when this time of year is referred to as winter. True, we do get some wind, a bit more rain and occasionally cause to wear a jacket. But, generally, winter in South Padre is downright pleasant when compared with the trials and tribulations facing those in snow country. One can usually assume that December, January and Feburary weather in South Texas will be 60's and 70's during the day with 50 degree temperatures at night. Occasional cold fronts will push the temperatures down and add a brisk wind. However, we rather enjoy these opportunities to get out a pair of jeans and a jacket. Most visitors find that it is comfortable to wear shirtsleeves and carry a sweatshirt or light jacket for evenings or windy times on the beach. As for us locals, well we might put on a sweater and real jacket. But, after all, for us its winter!
