Red Tide Update: Dramatically Down Since Beginning of the Week

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX (September 16, 2016)

Across South Padre Island, red tide cell concentrations have dramatically decreased since the beginning of the week.

Water samples collected this morning by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Coastal Studies Lab Red Tide Rangers have confirmed that there are no cell counts at the South Padre Island Convention Centre flats, and low cell counts along beach access 5.

No respiratory issues or extensive fish kills have been reported at this time.

“If it were me, I wouldn’t cancel any plans to come to the island,” said Brigette Goza, Coastal Studies Lab Senior Program Coordinator and Red Tide Ranger.

The vast, beautiful beaches of South Padre Island remain open for everyone to enjoy during this holiday weekend!
